Question: Beginner Assembly Language Questions

I'm taking a class that assumes Assembly Language experience, but don't have it (oops). Can you please describe the actions performed by the VAX11 instructions: MOV x,y; MPY x,y,z; and ADD x,y,z? Especially need to understand what happens to the target register--does the instruction replace the register's contents, add to it, etc. Thanks!
