I have been using a VPL called STELLA for several years. I might even venture to say that it is probably the most used VPL not desinged for GUI creation.
Many scientist use it to create simulation models in preference to script based languages like FORTRAN, Pascal, and BASIC.

Another VPL is ModelMaker at: www.worldserver.pipex.com/cherwell/
These languages fulfill the promise of non-programmers programming.
