Since 1.9B5, there has been support for multiple groups. The way it works, however, is that you have to have separate installations of HyperNews for each group. All the installations can share the .scripts directory and password file, so it is not quite so bad as it might sound. But we are going to redesign the whole thing for 2.0 so that one can put different restrictions on each base article.
