Some market research companies believe Lotus Notes is going
to be a $1.5 billion market by 1997.
As a technically oriented businessman who has been user,
project manager, and programmer for both Web and Notes
projects, it is blindingly clear that Notes has a *lot* of
overlap with the Web. Far too much to make sense of its
continued deployment as a corporate America information
backbone that happens to link to the Web if users really
insist...
HyperNews covers one of the key Web additions - and is
perhaps *the* key addition - which finally eliminate the
need for the complex, monolithic, entirely proprietary
Notes.
I feel you should explore this at least in the sense of
reading up on Notes a little, using it, and provoking
debate on the subject. Usenet message threads with the
Subject: "WWW v Lotus Notes" appear from time to time in
comp.groupware and comp.groupware.notes. I've seen plenty
of Lotus loyal responses, but nothing really substantive,
and almost nothing from the Internet community.
