I have used HyperNews for my graduate seminar for one term and it has worked out far better than other methods I have tried. I am researching the way in which these students use telecommunications and most research in my area (CMC in preservice teacher education) seems to treat all electronic discussions (e.g. e-mail, listserv, BBS) as facilitating the same kinds of interactions. This has not been my experience. A listserv, for instance, feels linear and it's nearly impossible to retrieve archives messages. How can one compare the dynamics of that type of e-discussion with the kinds of interactions facilitated by a HyperNews conference? I am looking for research that compares the dynamics of different electronic conferencing and would appreciate any references. Thanks in advance.
