Only Part of URL converted to link

Sorry if this has been covered before.
Why doesn't the '&newsdate=09-Nov-1999' portion of a link like the one below convert to part of the link in the message in our forum. I've been using HTML to get around this but was curious as to what the problem is as others don't or can't.
The entire link seems to be hyperlinked in the test area and here but not the particular forum I'm in.
