Icons and Response times.

I got HyoerNews 1.8.1 installed with the new Icon feature. Anyway I was told to Nuke them. Does any one have a way to delete or remove the Icons without breaking <URLs>.? Also, I noticed an slowness in anyones response time when responding to any of our HyoerNews forums. Just a long submission delay. Is that normal?
