Question: Is Perl 5.001.1 OK?

Keywords: Perl versions

Does anyone know if Perl 5.001.1 is OK? That's what's installed on our system. When I ask for a version it prints out:

This is perl, version 5.001

We haven't yet installed HyperNews version 1.9B4.2 successfully. My next attempt will be with HyperNews 1.9B5.1. If that still fails I'll try it with Perl 5.001n. Our sysadmin is reluctant to install yet another version of Perl unless absolutely necessary. Please let me know if there is any reason NOT to use Perl 5.001n.
