Well, sorry for bombarding your groups. I'm having a similar problem, except that the user authentication error message does come up. The strange thing, however, is that all security in HyperNews is turned off, and a member userid is not entered -- only the email address under "If you are not a member, please enter... Email Address"?
On a related note, it seems that, for some reason, HyperNews keeps changing the root directory for hn (ie. /usr/ns-home/docs/hn) to o-w (or 775) recursively after a message is created, even though $hnfilemode and $hndirmode were set to 0777 in setup. Since I'm running the server as nobody, results in an inability to reply afterwards.
Would anyone be able to help me?
