If you don't see a way to access older messages, then there probably is not a way to get to them. On most HyperNews sites, for most forums, all the older messages are kept unless deleted manually. There is an auto-delete capability too but few are using it.
Whether your message was deleted depends on what the owner of the forum thought about it. If it had no replies, it may be more likely to have been removed. HyperNews doesn't yet have a way to access automatically archived messages, except in a limited case. That feature still needs to be added.
