So far, the passwords seem to still be identical.
"Could it be a coincidence on top of a bug? If the .htgroupmembers file or .htgroupaccess files are not written
correctly when someone joins, that could apparently wipe out all the existing members."
I'm starting to suspect permissions were not reset to unwritable after the installation which could be causing the overwrite?? And to correct this:
1: Which directories need to be changed?
2: Will write access need to be removed for user, group, and world?
