You are a victim of internet authentication chaos. The current state of affairs is that different machines and services on the internet may require you to supply a different userid and password for each. There is very little sharing that goes on, and partly that is a good thing because it reduces risk, but it ends up causing people to use the same userids and passwords just to simplify life.
So the userid and password you login with is not the same as what is required by a HyperNews installation - not necessarily anyways. Each HyperNews installation has its own membership files that are not shared across servers. So, the HyperNews installation you were using required authentication in order to write messages, unlike this installation here. And you either entered the wrong userid and password, or you don't have permission. You may be able to get permission if you ask the administrator of the site.
