First, I want to thank Dan for continuing to support HyperNews. It's obvious from the age of some of the postings that he's been at it for quite some time; many people (probably myself included) would have dropped it by now. Anyway, HyperNews seems to be fairly complex, and it's great to be able get info/help straight from the developer's mouth!
My questions continue! Are the group identifiers in .hngroupmembers important? How are they generated? More specifically, how did some of my identifiers end up as "All1"? I used exactly the same method to set up each of my forum/installations. I have several installations, each with a single forum and group. I did this to gain the maximum control over the content of each forum and who posts to where.
I hacked the HN setup form with JavaScript. When I initially set up my installations or when I make a change that I would like to apply to all the installtions, I make the change on the form once and let JavaScript make each submittal. JS takes care of filling in the unique info for each installation and submitting to the different URLs. (This is why I'm pretty sure that all of the installations where set up the same.)
When are you releasing the next version? Will it be a set of fixes, or are you going with new functionality, too? Will it be v2.0.0?
