Hi Daniel.
I set up HyperNews for a project at work and I think it will be very
useful... (and started my own local mosaic server in the last 2 days,
hacking this stuff is very addictive!)...
I've got some local feedback that surfing through a bunch of pages
served by the perl scripts is a little difficult (i work with very
impatient people *sigh*)
my thought for a simple hack to mitigate the problem:
use an include-URL directive to inline the referenced URL...
by making the include vs. reference choice dynamic (include a button
to let the user decide), then pages could be pulled in all at once
to make a big monster page or through the normal surfing technique...
this would be a nice way to take the perl scripting overhead all at
once (while you're doing something else, like catching up on mail)....
additionally, this might be a nice way impose different 'views' on a
HyperNews response tree... --> let the user choose to collapse everything
beyond a certain depth in the tree to buttons that will let them reexpand
them (and tell them how many responses are collapsed under the button)...
Thank you for taking the time to read this and respond... Are there
appropriate mailing lists (didn't see any listed under your HyperNews
pages). If a hack is in progress to accomplish the above goal, please
point me to it so i can grab it or help do it. If you have suggestions
for how to do it, i'm listening (my current tack is to just learn the
guts of HyperNews better and modify as appropriate)...
