Just realized that this information, is already available in the form of the Base: link at the top of the Headers. I'll reuse that info and copy it as the link for my icon.
All that needs to be done is to go to the subroutine
sub printNextLinks in the file hnview.pl
and add the following HREF, IMG SRC pair at the end of all the other icons.

<IMG SRC=\"$hniconsURL/home.gif\" WIDTH=100 HEIGHT=45 BORDER=0
ALT=\"HOME\"></A>
Assuming you have an icon called home.gif 100x45 pixels in the directory where all the icons are kept.
