An alternative that I have hacked into HyperNews is to use
Netscape's frames to achive an area of the response tree and
a main window where the response is shown. I think this
solves the problem pretty nicely, but I also think HyperNews
could be designed differently if this became a "preferred" way
of structuring the screen layout. I think the frame stuff
looks ok but lacks some flexibility (like being able to have
alternative layouts, forcing non-layout mode,etc). Anyway, to
