How configurable is HyperNews?

Hi

I'm a psychologist with a computer background but little WEB programming expereince. I am working on a dissertation project which will involve creating an on-line support group for job seekers. I understand that HyperNews will soon be installed on our WEB server here at the University of Washington and I am wondering if I will be able to incorporate it into my WEB project. Here are some things I would like to be able to do:

1) Instead of a tree of responses, I would like to create a single (one-level) list of messages. The reason for this is to simplify the system for novice users. Also, I expect all users to read all messages (this will be a small private group of at most 10 people).

2) I would like other parts of the whole system to be able to post messages automatically to the bulletin board. For example, users will complete various questionnaires then I plan on writing PERL programs to process hteir answers and then post them to the bulletin board

I would be interested in hearing from the creator(s) of HyperNews or from persons who have used HyperNews in this way.

Thanks -- Steve Herman (206) 548-0595
