We put expiration on the schedule for a couple months from now.

In general, I don't like expiration, and prefer organization of preserved responses. Usually, either responses are in the wrong place (and should be moved), or shouldn't have been created in the first place (and should be deleted), or a large tree needs to be subdivided into several smaller trees to be more easily browsed by readers.

1.9B5.6 supports reorganizing a bit better with bulk move and deletion. But despite all this, it is still sometimes appropriate to expire old postings, or at least automatically archive them.
