HyperNews was not originally intended as a news reader so much as an archive. No matter how much we add in the way of being a better news reader, there will always be more that is required to meet the different needs of different readers, such as sorting by date, 'kill file' filtering, etc. I think we will get to these features eventually, but until then, the email notification feature was intended as the one feature that subsumes all the rest. Subscribe to the page you are interested in following and you will get just the new postings in your mail box in the order they were added. What's missing, of course, is that the context of those postings is lost. Turning HyperNews into a personalized mail system is where we are headed in the long run. The latest version of HyperNews lets you send email to HyperNews as well. It's disabled by default because it is still experimental. |
