Generating Reports

In addition to its use as a conferencing tool, it looks to me as though HyperNews could be used for more specific (and boring!) purposes such as event tracking.
However, such uses need a way of producing summary reports of progress with status, dates etc.
Is there any way to access the raw data to produce reports? Alternatively, does anyone know of an alternative to HyperNews with perhaps restricted functionality, but the sort of features I need?
We would even consider paying money for something really good!
