Feedback Many ways in which email can be lost

Forum: Instructions for Subscribing and Unsubscribing
Re: Question not receiving email notification

The path starting from a HyperNews message posting and ending at your mail box has many steps, each of which could result in the mail being dropped before you get it.

1. You must be on the subscription list for the message thread or forum. You must be subscribed at the forum level to get all messages in the forum. You might be unsubscribed accidently (or maybe via a bug) for each message, which would override the forum subscription.

2. You might have a member preference setting to send no emails to you. Or your email address might have been deleted from the member info somehow.

3. The email notification configuration option might be disabled for the whole installation.

4. Outgoing email via sendmail might have numerous problems.

5. There might be a spam filter that mistakenly assumes HyperNews email is spam.

6. Even if you get the email in your inbox, you might have filters that hide it or move it to another folder that you forget to look in.

Aside from all those possibilities, there might bugs in HyperNews that are triggered by circumstances I don't know about yet.

Hope that helps narrow the field of possibilities.
