Genealogy Home Page

This is the La Liberté genealogy home page. It was created in August 1995 with the objective of gathering genealogy information related to the Laliberté families. You will find various links to genealogy related issues: softwares, a genealogy page for french-speaking countries, some drawings of Nouvelle-France, maps of France and Quebec, some GEDCOM files...and much more. The page is growing slowly but surely...just logon once in a while, you'll probably find something new.

But even better, YOU too can participate on this "HyperNews" page by posting your own information or questions related to the subject at the bottom of this page in the forum section. Please post in the appropriate section, if your message is about Bernard Laisne dit Laliberte for example then post it as a reply to message 7, if your message has no relation with an ancester then post it in the various section as a reply to message 45. Please do not post a new message at the root. We'll be pleased even if you just say who you are and how you are related to the Laliberté family. You may even find relatives one day, some did ! If you're not familiar with the use of HyperNews, please refer to the instructions - it's easy ! By the way, HyperNews has been created by a La Liberté ! (traduction francaise du texte précédent)

Re: Is it a surname added on their departure ? (Hugues Laliberte)
Sorry, I give my response in french...

Jean-Guy Laliberte tells us that some men upon joining the army have used a "war surname", in some case: Laliberte.

As well, he gives family names which have use the surname Laliberte, see message 3.1.1

I recently began a genealogical search of the Laliberte family.

My name is Charles R. Delobe. I live in Burke, Virginia, but
was born in in 1947 in Rhode Island, home to a large number of
Lalibertes who settled there, and in nearby Massachussetts,
after leaving Quebec in the early part of the century.

My mother name is Flore Laliberte. Her father was Raoul
Roireau dit Laliberte and her grandfather was Victor Roireau
dit Laliberte.

Victor descended from Hyacinthe (II) Roireau dit Laliberte of
St. Simon and St. Liboire, Quebec. (m. to Julie Fournier); who
descended from Hyacinthe (I) Roireau dit Laliberte
(m. to Charlotte Cote). This is as far as I've been able to
trace the line. I have ordered a direct line search from a
French-American genealogy society in Pawtucket, RI. I'll be
glad to share the results as soon as I receive the material.

In the meantime, I'm interested in any information anyone may
have concerning the ancestors who left France for Nouvelle France.

Dear Charles, You an I are second cousins!Your grand father and my grand father Lorenzo Laliberte were brothers. Your mother and my father Albert "Al" G. Laliberte are first cousins! I have much information on our line back to the mid 1600' in Canada. Hyacinthe (I) Roireau dit Laliberte's father was Augustin Roireau dit Laliberte m. Margariette Vezina 8th January, 1781; Augustin's parents were Micheal Roireau dit Laliberte m. Marie Catherine Mailhot Michel's parents were Michel Roireau dit Laliberte m.Marquerite Leboeuf: Michel's parents were Gaspard Roireau dit Laliberte.

I live in Lexington S.C. and work in Columbia, S.C. My father remarried after my mother died and lives in Beaufort S.C. See My response to an earlier inquire, as I am Liberte220.

Re: Roireau to Delobe (Lee Laliberte)

Our line follows the one listed above to Augustin & Marguerite Vezina but then branches off at another son, Olivier who m. Marguerite Tareau- Champagne 26 SEP 1803 in St Hyacinthe Their son Jean-Baptiste married Josette Blanchette 2 MAR 1835 in St Hyacinthe Thier son Eusebe married Philomene Boucher 10 JAN 1860 in St Simon Thier sons Misael (Israel) (My great grandfather) Stanislas and Henri, along with several sisters, came to RI around 1890.

No close relation to Chuck Delobe's family, as I expected,
but it appears they did know each other, as there are several
who lived nearby to one another around 1890 in Central Falls..
At any rate, I'll be hunting to confirm this (not my
research) and I'll continue to update my GEDCOM as I can.
See my webpage for updates early next week (as soon as
I get back to NY!)
  Take care cousins!

Raoul's of Louis  Keywords: Roireau dit Laliberte

Re: Roireau to Delobe (Lee Laliberte)

I've been trying to get a responce on this via email for a week and a half, and in sheer frustration am posting here... Ok, they were two Raoul Laliberte's in Manville, both with Louis as a father. Raoul #1 was the son of Louis and Albina Roy, and married Marie Garcia Lafreniere (of gaspard and Aurore Vanasse) on 23 JUN 1927 at St James in Manville Raoul # 2 was the son of Louis and Olvine Hemond, and married Beatrice Pinsonneault (of Georges and Anna Blanchette) on 30 NOV 1933 at St james in Manville. His father Louis died while he was young (before he was 17). Raoul had siblings: Bertha, Edgar, Jeannette, Emma and Andrew. Coincidently, they livved next door to a Louis and Emma Laliberte, who was about 30 years older than Raoul's father (perhaps a grand parent?)

Lorenzo L was also living in the area at the time, he had a wife who's name I cannot make out, and two sons Albert and George...

Ok, now folks, Can anyone match the second Raoul to a
family? (Chuck is this your grandfather?) What about Louis,
next door?

Sorting these folks out whill help a lot in sorting out
the Laliberte glut in RI, though there were earlier Laliberte
families present... Cyrille notably (can anyone claim him?)
  Thanks
Vivs

Hello Charles,

I'm happy to see that someone else is doing some research about the Laliberte family. Your ancestor Augustin was the brother of Etienne which i'm the descendant. He was married to Marguerite Lebeuf.

If you have some information about Gaspard that you would like to share with me i'd be happy because i don't know much about him.

I too am a Laliberte from Pawtucket RI, and I recall and Aunt Flore being mentioned. I was Born Ron Scott Laliberte, my father is Ronald Roland Laliberte (His Brother is Raymond Laliberte) and my Grandfather was (Gerard) Raymond Laliberte.

Something that might help tie things together for us, did you
attend or hear about a big Laliberte Family reunion held in
Central Falls, RI in the early 1970s? I went as a child, and
have been recently trying to track down the guest list,
which I understand was primarily composed by my Grandparents
and one of my grandfather's sisters (possibly Flore?)

At any rate, I'll be attempting to catalogue our end of the
Family line, and if you folks don't hear from me within
the next month or so, please bug me and get me in gear! =)

Re: Question: Another Cousin? (Vivs (Ron) Scott Laliberte)

Ok, it appears we're not closely related, but here's some info
on the Pawtucket Laliberte's I am related to.
The Patriarch was Isreal Laliberte, who had two wives,
one (we beleive) was Marie... We're working on hunting up
any family documents and checking with surviving relatives.
Israel had 13 children, we have 12 names, Pete, Ida, Fedora, Blanche, Gertrude
Normand, Raymond, Beatrice, Florence, Walter, Louis, Francis

Israel passed away in 1956, and Raymond (my Grand father) in 92. I'll go back and check above, but if anyone has any info on any of these Laliberte's, it would be appreciated. Family info implies that the name went from RoiReau->Roy->Laliberte, though exact time tables aren't known (yet)... More as I have it! =) VIvs

Re: Question: Another Cousin? (Vivs (Ron) Scott Laliberte)
My name is Sue Davey. My e-mail is jackdavey@sioux.sodak.net. I live on an Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

I traveled to Pawtucket and Central Falls in May 1995. I was looking for information on Margaret & Joseph,

LaLiberte, Napoleon Charbonneau, and Leopoldine Charbonneau LaLiberte.

Both Leopoldine and Napoleon are siblings to my husband's grandfather Alex Charbonneau (1/6/1850-2/12/1939).

LaLiberte's are related by marriage. Joe & Margaret LaLiberte came to visit the reservation. We have photos.

Joe LaLiberte was the son of Aunt Schevenelle, Mrs. Olantz Schevenelle. (??) There was a grandson, Edwin Du Cruet.

Two uncles were Catholic priests, Holy Trinity in Central Falls. No news since 1939???

Any connections?????

Re: Note: Roireau dit Laliberte (Charles R. Delobe)

Gaspar is commonly said to have had 3 children, however I
seem to have found a fourth, a Jean Baptiste RoiRoux who married a Marie Gervais in 1731, but as of yet I have not
found any more line to follow than that.
If anyone has pointers on thier part of the family, ie where to look, let me know, and I will. A few folks have sent me data on their direct lines, and Ill be adding just the direct lines for them, as I trust that they are accurate. I'll then research the locations they give me to find more on their
families. I want as much as possible of my database to be
well doccumented source wise. So information/date information
is more of interest to me, though I'll take anything I can get.
Again, if you have a GEDCOM, from any Laliberte line, feel free to send it to me, and I'll archive it on my web page.
Thus far it's just me and Chuck Delobe, I'll certainly take more!
Take care, and keep the info flowing.
(btw, We've found a 100 page book detailing more or less
my direct line from gaspar down, written entirely in french,
and are int eh process of getting a photocopy of it from a family member. Once it's done being translated (Im not a french speaker) I may have a lot more information to add...
  Take care,
 Vivs Laliberte

Hi Vivs...have finally connected to your line. I will trace it as it applies to me;
1)Barb Walton (me)
2)Helen Watson/Jordon/Clifford (my Mom)
3)Mary (Francina)Perisema "Sherbutte" (CHABOT...confirmed!)married to William Francis Watson
4)Seraphine Roiroux dit Laliberte Married to Theodore Chabot
5)Francois Roiroux dit Laliberte married to Lucille Chene
6)Eustache-Michel Roiroux/Laliberte married to Marie-Marguerite Gentilly
7)Michel Roiroux/Laliberte (2nd marriage to Angelique Bergeron on 16 Aug 1768 at St. Antoine de Tilly, Quebec Canada
8)Jean-Baptiste Roiroux?Laliberte married to Marie-Jeanne Gervais on 5 Feb, 1731 at Ste. Anne de-la-perode, Quebec Canada
9)Gaspard Roiroux married to Marguerite Laverdure dit Herbert in 1693...records say no more on Gaspard except that he originated from France.

I am still in the process of building my gedcom and hope to shortly have my own website for genealogy. I just thought you might be interested in my line back to Gaspard...is there a "D" at the end of his name? The records showed a "D" so I wrote it as such...
Thanks,
Barb Walton

P.S...also, I live in the little Northern Ontario village (Fenelon Falls) that Seraphine (my ggrandmother)moved to after leaving Quebec and had the darndest time trying to find their records as the census takers wrote their names as "Sherbaut" when it should have been "Chabot". THE FAMILY WROTE IT AS "SHERBUTT(E)" for the past 100 years and now that I have found the marriage between Theodore Chabot and Seraphine Roiroux/Laliberte the rest of my Sherbutt cousins in Michigan are angry that our name was so anglicized and some want to change it back to the original spelling...see what doing your genealogy can cause!!!But I love it! Take care...BW

 Chap 8 Laliberte

				CHAPTER 8
				LALIBERTE

I must start the Laliberte line of descent with Gaspar Roy-Roux or Roy dit Laliberte, (1) b. 1664, Chersonville, and a direct decendant from the Roi-Roux Laliberte 's of Normandy, France. A name well known in the old seagoing circles of Normandy and colonial trading company headquarters in Paris. Members of the family of Roi Roux in the 14 th century were soldiers and seadogs; two in their times were marshals of France. In the 17th century les Sieurs Roux de Royvolle were esteemed members of L 'Compagnie de la France Equinoctiale, which founded trade colonies abroad.

As later in America, in France, the Roiroux were much associated with the church, and often were members of the clergy. In the late l4th century Antoine le Roiroux warranted a fine tomb in the cathedral at Rouen, and in 1522 his nephew Rouland, a famous sculptor, architect and builder, designed among many fine buildings and monuments, and. added a central tower to the cathedral. It is recorded at Rouen that in 1667 a Louis Roi Roux was chevalier St. Aubin. St. Aubins town lies between Rouen and Doippe in Normandy, and there also resided the Colin Laliberte's Nicholas, and his wife Anne, who was a Roi Roux. It is also recorded that in the 15th century Pierre La1iberte m. Marie Roux, at Pitrie near Rouen; also that in nearby Chersonville lived Jean-Baptiste Laliberte and his family. Often the mother's maiden name was perpetuated in the French family names, as the Laisne Laliberte's. In his Dictionaire genoalogique ded Families de la Francois Canadiens. L'Abbe Cyprian Tanguay says regarding the Laisne Laliberte 's this family was often called or surnamed Roiroux or Roy dit Laliberte. The Laisne family was of Caen and of Periers in the diocese of Couyances in Normandy, and a branch went to live in nearby St. Malo, Brittany.

A Pierre Roiroux Laisne dit Laliberte b. 1692, a son of Bernard

Laliberte of Periers, Normandy, and a grand son of Michael of Caen in 1720,m. Marguerite LaPlante of St. Jean on the Isle of Orleans in Quebec. Of this m. was born on Aug 5, 1721, a son Pierre, who on Nov 9, 1750, m. Marie-Angelique Delaire. Of this rn. was born Louis Laliberte. So says the genealogy of the families of Island of Orlean by L'abbe Michel Forgues, in report on Canadian archives, 1905, vol 2, page 194. This Louis Laliberte was later a voyageur with the early explores to the Northwest.

However my Laliberte's branch descended from the Roi Roux -Laliberte clan of Normandy through Gaspar Roi Roux Laliberte b. 1664, and d. in 1718. Gaspar (1) m. in 1693 Marguerite Hebert dit Laverdure a dau. of Michel Hebert of St. Medric de Paris, who was a son of Antoine Hebert and Jeanne le Roy. Marguerites father Michel farmed on land granted him in 1686 by Monsieur de Lotei niere a relative of Three Rivers had to flee for his life in 1653 from Iroquois Indians. (Jesuit Relations Vol 38: 170-1) Marguerite Hebert was b. 1676 in Quebec. In the genealogy of the Laliberte family as compiled by M. Leon Roy, eminent Canadian archivist, it is noted that the ancient farnily name Roi-roux or Roy dit Laliberte was in general family use.

Michael, first-born of Gaspar and Marguerite Laliberte, (2) was b. 1694 on July 27, 1721 he m.Marguerite Lebeuf, of St. Louis near St. Jean Deschaillions. A son Joseph, (3) (1732-1804) was baptised Sept 21, 1732 at St. Anne de la Perade, he m. (1) Elizabeth Barabe or, Barnabe on April 4, 1758 at Deschaillons and (2) Marie-Thresa (Marguerite) Hubert, on Feb 15,1768 also at Deschaillions. A son Joseph, (4) (1769-1851) by the second wife, was baptised at Deschaillions on Nov 9, 1769, he m. Marie Josephte Morand dit Douville on June 4, 1804 at St. Anne de la Perade. Three children of this marriage were: Henriette, (5) b. 1806; Casmar, (5) b. 1817 and Joseph Etienne Laliberte (5) b. 1819. Joseph Etienne Laliberte (5) (1819-1889) became a ship posting station and land owner at Sorel. His home was at St-Francois du Lac.

On Jan. 12, 1842, he m. Emilie Saloe, dau. of Francois Saloe and his wife Genevieve Parenteau of St- Francois-du-Lac. Nine children of this couple have been traced to traced to this place. Joseph Etienne Laliberte, (5) was the last ancestral step in Quebec of the line of the Spokane, Washington Lalibertes as compiled by M. Leon Roy, archivist of the city of Quebec. In the year 1 849 word of the California gold-rush was received in the East and Joseph Etienne Laliberte, (5) of Sorel became a Forty-Niner. Some of the gold seekers became rich overnight, but Joseph Laliberte was not one of them and he soon returned to Quebec. In 1863 he sold all his business interests in Quebec and with his family and a friend Joseph Hebert and family, moved up the Richelier river to Burlington on Lake Champlain. Later the families moved to Manchester, N ew Hampshire and from there to Cambridge, Mass., where in Sept 1889 Joseph Etienne Laliberte d. and was buried in Calvary Forest cemetery there.

Among the children of Joseph E. Laliberte, (5) who had been baptised at St Francois-du-Lac, Quebec were Etienne Eduard, (6) b. Nov 15, 1842, and Edmond Joseph, (6) b. Oct 8, 1844, both attended the local seminary training for priesthood, but both pursued their destines in the far west as laymen.

While the Laliberte and Hebert families lived in Manchester, New Hanshire, Edmond Joseph, (6) m. Jessica Hebert at St. Ann's church in 1864. She was a direct decendant of Louis Hebert,b. Dec 21, 1844 in Quebec. In May 1892, Edmond and Jessica Laliberte boarded the first East to West train of the Great Northern, and arrived at the little frontier town of Spokane, Washington. With them came their 6 living children, they had nine children.

Joseph Barnabe became a naturalized U. S. citizen in Marion county, Oregon Territory in Sept 1851. It was said that wife Elizabeth was French, English and Indian. The Ihdian would have to be have been from her mother Josephte Colville, which at this in. time I have never been able to probe. Am told the name Colville her came from the name of the Fort which was named in honor of Andrew Colvile. Now was Josephte Colville a decendant of Andrew Colvile or were the Indians of that area so designated in the earlyrecord I have read in the records of John Porter Graham that Christine Barnabe was fair skinned, blue eyed and very, very handsome. Question: Slightly different information  Keywords: Laliberte, Laisne, Roiroux
by Hugues Laliberte ,   1995, Nov 25
Re: Family History Extract (Daniel M LaLiberte)
Your article says at the end of second paragraph:

Pierre Roiroux Laisne dit Laliberte born 1692
Son of Bernard Laliberte of Periers, Normandy
Grandson of Michael of Caen
Married Marguerite LaPlante

The information I could find from different sources says that:

Pierre Laisne dit Laliberte, son of
Bernard Laisne dit Laliberte from Chatelaudren,Brittany
and grandson of Guillaume Laine and Antoine Dionne (mother's side)
and married Marguerite Plante.

Explanation ?

Maybe Bernard was born in Periers but lived in Chatelaudren before
leaving for Nouvelle-France ?

But Michael of Caen is never mentionned in any info I got.
I saw that Bernard may have been married twice, maybe Pierre is
the son of his first marriage and Michael is the father of Bernard's
first spouse ?

Anyone who could confirm this info is welcome !

Re: Family History Extract (Daniel M LaLiberte)
Of great interest to my research is the section devoted to the migration of the Hebert and Laliberte families from Quebec in 1863. This article parallels the timing of my research to the exact year. My ancestor, Michel Pierre Hebert and his wife Felicite Bibeau, and at least nine of their thirteen children left St. Michel d' Yamaska, and barged the Richelieu to Lake Champlain, and eventually settled between Concord and Manchester, NH. As the old family story goes: Michel and Felicite's oldest son Michel allegedly headed west through the Great Lakes to seek his fortunes, allegedly with members of the Laliberte family, and nothing was heard of him ever again. We now know his fate. Michel and Felicite's daughter, Marie Madelien Jesse' Hebert (also known as Jessica Hebert) married the brother of one of the Laliberte family members who set out with her brother Michel for the lands out west. Jessica married Edmond Joseph Laliberte in 1864, Manchester, NH. Jessica and her family lost contact with her New England roots at the turn of the 19th century. We now know that she moved to Spokane in 1892. Jessica's brother Louis Joseph Hebert married Rosilda Laliberte in 1868, Manchester, NH. We are unable to find her parentage but we do know she was born in 1851, "Quebec", and settled in Lawrence, MA, before marrying in Manchester.

The Hebert family has other references at family events to the Laliberte families as well as Roux families, possibly related?
I would like to merge my information with the Laliberte family line. Has anyone undertaken the writing of the family history from 1863 to the present? I would love to share the ever being revised draft of the Hebert Family History.

I began my search in laliberte genealogy home page on America Online and came accross e-mail between you and Daniel and Hugues Laliberte.Your "Family History Extract" was very interesting.

I must summarize my line for you to have some background. I live in Columbia, South Carolina. Altough I have traveled and done limited research in Monteal and Quebec, I have compiled some data and references on some of my line. The following is my line as I understand. The early line is notconfirmed or substanciated with proper documentation by me, rather information I have recieved from others. I will start with myself and work backwords and at some point will indicate where documentation ends.

Albert Lee Laliberte b.1946 - of Albert Gervis Laliberte b. 1918 m. Mary Brinson -of Lawrence Lorenzo Laliberte b.1895 m. Forence Charpentier - of Louis Victor Roireau dit Laliberte b. 1865 m. Marguerite Cadoret - of Hyacinthe Roireau dit Laliberte b. 1823 m. Julie Fournier - of Hyacinthe (1st) Roireau dit Laliberte b. 1799 m. Charlotte Cote - of Augustin Roireau dit Laliberte b. 1757 m. Margariette Vezina - ( documentation not confirmed from this point back) of Michel Roireau dit Laliberte b. 1728 m. Marie Catherine Mailhot - of Michel (1st) Roireau dit Laliberte b. 1697 m. Marguerite Le boruf - of Gaspard Roireau (Roirou) dit Laliberteb. ca. 1674 m. Marguerite Hebert (parents were ?? Michel Hebert and Anne Gallet)?? Gaspard Roireau dit laliberte and wife Marguerite Hebert had three children??, Michel , Joseph, and Marguerite who married Nicolas Baiilargeon?

If you can provide any further advice or confirmation on this research it would be helpful.I have a very rare volumn on "La Famille Nicolas Gendron". There are hundreds and hundreds of different families and their lines in this book by L'Abbe P.S. Gendron du Seminaire de Saint-Hycinthe, P. Q. ,1929. Other names of my line are: Cadoret, Chargrin, Charpentier, Coiteux, Cote, Fournier, Gallet, Gaudreauly(Gaudreau), Gendron, Gervais, Hebert, Languerand, Levigne-Rivard, Leboeuf, L'Hero(L'Heareux), Messier, Maillot (Mailhot), Roireau (Roirou), Vezine (Vezina), Thibault.

Following your note on the Laliberte genealogy page:

Some of your ancesters were named Roireau which you spell also Roirou. I'm not so sure about that but if you read message 12 on this page (Family History extract) you will find a lot of info on the Roy-Roux dit Laliberte or Roiroux dit Laliberte families that might be link with yours. French pronounciation of Roireau and Roiroux is similar.

P.S.: I might have connections with the Roiroux family myself through the Laisne dit Laliberte, I need to verify that.

Re: From Liberte220@aol.com (Daniel M LaLiberte)
As you can tell from note # 21, we are related. Our nearest common ancestor
was Victor Roireau dit Laliberte. Your father and my mother are cousins. I
just became interested in doing a genealogical search of the Laliberte
family and I was amazed to find a web site devoted to the topic. I have
pretty much the same information as you at this point but I recently
ordered a direct line search of our line from a French-American genealogy
society in Pawtucket, RI which has what I am told is an extraordinary
collection of genealogy research materials. I'll be glad to share
whatever information I receive from them. It should take about a month or
so.

By the way, I believe that I am currently in possession of the book to
which you refer in your note (Nicholas Gendron family). My mother recently
obtained it from her sister. It appears to have made its way around the
family in the past few years.

Let me know how your search goes. I especially want to trace the family's
origins in France before arrival in Canada.

Now I'm looking for the parents of Telesphore, and I have no idea of what part of Canada they came from, only what was on Rosaline's death certificate. They were in Tupper Lake in June of 1892 according to Rosaline's Baptism Cert, from a church there.

Does any one have Telesphore in their Family Tree?

I'm glad to report that I have finally located Telesphore's parents. They are Jean L'Evangeliste Roireau dit Laliberte who married Marie Phebee Rivard dit Lanouette on March 6, 1848 in Becquets, Nicolet, PQ, Canada. Jean is the son of Guillaume and Marie Marguerite Meunier dit Lagace. My final clue to this mistery came when I contacted Henry Lanouette about F. Lanouette and he returned my message saying that her name is Phebee. So now I'm looking to see if there were any other sibings of this marriage.

Hello Aline,
I've been looking through baptismal records from Plessisville, Somerset, Quebec and have successfully located records of Jean Laliberte (parents Valere Laliberte and Aurelie Lanouette). In my research, I have come across Telesphore's baptismal record and many records of children of Jean L'Evangeliste and Marie. The records are in French, which I don't read very well, so it'll take me sometime to translate. If you're interested, I could give you the number of the Family History Center's Microfilm number for these records. (Unfortunately, I have none of the information with me at the time.)

My name is Eve Laliberte, originally from Worcester MA. My father was Elie J. Laliberte, son of Louis LaLiberte, grandson Augustin LaLiberte. From Augustin on back is the same as Vivs Laliberte.
The small town that Gaspard came from is still in existence in SW France.
Gaspard was one of the Cardigan regiment, soldiers ostensibly sent to protect the settlers in New France but with the hidden agenda of supplying the area with new blood. The story is that 6 young men (unrelated) in the regiment decided to take the "dit" name of La Liberte. That's wwhat drinking around the wilderness campfire will do for you. Because of the small number of habitants in New France, the subsequent families probably became related in later years, to add to the complications.
Good luck!

Re: Question: Roy-Roux or Roireau dit LaLiberte (Rosalie Ferris)
I'm new at this but I had stumble into a professional genealogist (sic) during a visit in a museum this summer...so we did some research one afternoon...Here it is.

Gaspard maried Marguerite Hebert around 1692-1695. He is presumed to have been a soldier. He came from the village of ROUAI-ROUX in the southern part of France( Department of Tarne). He did not have possesion of any official papers on his departure for New-France so he might have used the name of his hometown as his family name: Rouai-Roux which was reformated into Roi-Roux.

He used also the nickname " Dit Laliberte" as many others did. The other families who did are: Collin, Deschamps, Galet, Herve, Huard, Laine, Lehoux, Letendre, Mouilleron, Senet, Tessier, Thouin, Vinet.

Rouai-Roux is now a small village of approx. 300 people, almost a ghost village.

His father-in-law, Michel hebert, was a soldier in the well-known Regiment de Carrignan. He came in New-France on june, 30, 1665. His mother-in-law, Anne Galet was the daughter of Pierre and Louise Serre from Val d'oise, France.

Gaspard established himself in the village of St-Jean Deschaillons, on the south shore of the St-Lawrence river, closed to the city of Trois-Rivières. He had 4 children: Joseph maried to Marie-Joseph Leduc(3/11/1735); Jean-Baptiste maried to Jeanne Gervais(5/2/1731); Michel maried to Marguerite Lebeuf(27/7/1721) and Marguerite maried to Nicholas Baillargeon(11/6/1730).

I am a descendant of Michel maried to Marguerite Lebeuf: the one branch that sticked in St-Jean Deschaillons until 1915.

My great grand father, Lucien, was the first to used solely the name Laliberte when he got married to Anna Marie-Rose Lebeuf in St-Jean Deschaillons on april, 29, 1895. He was born Lucien Roirou dit Laliberte but got maried as Lucien Laliberte. He's the one who moved to Trois-Rivieres in 1915 after having lost his "brick business" for the second time in a big fire. He was broke, no insurance, so he moved to Trois-Rivieres to get a job in a factory. Since then, the descendant of Michel are all (almost) living in Trois-Rivieres (and the closed surroundings)...but me, I'm in Montreal.

Well, ...that's about all I have to share. Hope that it helps. Now, allow me to ask for a favor. Is there any program out there that I could use to build some kind of a tree ?

Regards

Denis Laliberte

Question: Looking for Victoire Roireau-Laliberte descendants  by Linnie ,   2000, Mar 03
Re: Note: Roireau dit Laliberte (Charles R. Delobe)
Can someone please help me to find a couple of descendants of Victoire Roireau-dit-Laliberte? She was the daughter of Francois and Magdeleine Hebert and married Oct. 11, 1841 to Charles-Pierre Desforges-dit-Picard, at St-Pie-de-Bagot, P.Q., Canada.

Victoire and Charles-Pierre had a son Henri, whose name was changed to Henry Miller-Picard and was supposedly born in Pigeon Hill, VT, or on the border in Pigeon Hill, Canada. Henry married a Malvina Stone (?Lapierre) about 1870, and I have no idea where that marriage took place.

I would very much appreciate help in finding out where he was married and what Malvina's REAL last name was, as well as her parent's names, if at all possible.

Thank you in advance, Linnie

Re: Note: Roireau dit Laliberte (Charles R. Delobe)
My great great grandmother is Anastasia Roireau dit Laliberté and she was married to Côme Morin dit Valcourt. I have no idea who are her parents. But I do know that they come from around the St. Simon de Bagot area in Quebec.
They had a daughter name Emma Valcourt who married Joseph Baril. He's my great grandfather. There daughter Francesca Baril married Alphonse Beaugrand dit Champagne, who is my mother's father. And my mother is Beatrice Beaugrand dit Champagne who is married to Adrien Girouard.
This branch is located in Manitoba. They settle in St. Jean-Baptiste, Manitoba, Canada. We are a big family out here.
Question: New links found Roiroux and Laine dit Laliberte...need some help!!  by Barb ,   2000, Apr 30
Re: Note: Roireau dit Laliberte (Charles R. Delobe)
I have recently come across some more of my LAliberte lineage and have some questions. First, I'll begin with my ggrandmother Seraphine Laliberte born 1861 at St. Victoire Que., married Theodore (Joseph) Chabot (anglicized in Ontario and States to "Sherbutt" on June 28, 1880 at St. Victoire, Que. Seraphine had a sister Felonise and the following brothers; Ludgar Laine dit Laliberte, Joseph Laine dit Laliberte, Henri Laliberte, Felix Laliberte and of more I know nothing of.
Seraphines parents are Francois Roiroux dit Laliberte married to Lucie Chene (Chaine) on October 8, 1839, Gentilly, Que. Francois was the son of Eustache Laliberte and Marguerite Gentilly and Lucie was the daughter of Edouard Chene and Marguerite Normandeau.
My question is this...how can the father(Francois) be a Roiroux dit Laliberte and the sons Ludgar and Joseph go by Laine dit Laliberte? Can anyone connect to this family of mine and explain this occurrence and help me go back some more in my lineage?
Best regards,
Barb Walton
P.S. I have heard from Viv's before but could not find a relation in his gedcom. Maybe this new info. will help
Feedback: Sources for above?  by Phil Laliberte ,   2000, May 01
Re: Question: New links found Roiroux and Laine dit Laliberte...need some help!! (Barb)
What are your sources for the above information? Do you have hard evidence such as church records or what? Can you confirm from more than one source? The first thing that comes to mind is that somehow these people got linked by mistake, without any good records to prove it I would not consider that Roireau dit Laliberte parents would have children named Laisne dit Laliberte, check the sources and then try and prove them with other sources otherwise it is not a valid genealogy link.

Re: Feedback: Sources for above? (Phil Laliberte)
Hi Phil,
Thanks for your response to my posting. This has been a hard line to follow...resources are from DROUIN Genealogical Inst. The two sons Ludger and Joseph were found under the LAINE name while the father Francois and their mother was found married Oct. 8th, 1839 at Gentilly and listed as ROIROUX dit Laliberte...I have checked these names out at the LDS family history center and also other internet links but am presently in contact with a very reliable internet friend who has helped me crack this lineage thus far and who has put me in contact with the St. Boniface Historical Society for confirmation on these facts.
I thought I would put forth the question on my information I have thus far connected as I noticed there has been similar coincidental links of dit names by other researchers on this forum, but not so close in relation to being father/son. I will keep looking and reaffirming my findings though and do appreciate your input and help,
Yours,
Barb Walton

Re: Question: New links found Roiroux and Laine dit Laliberte...need some help!! (Barb)
I've come across a baptismal record for a Ludger Laliberte son of Francois Laliberte (mother's name was illegible) on the following LDS microfilm #1293414. The year of the baptism was 1844. Ludger's record was on page 88. The title of the records Quebec, Magantic - Church Records. Index, 1840-1876; Registres, 1856-1876. (I was researching Jean Laliberte of Plessisville and copied down on the Laliberte's from the index in order to find siblings of Jean's). Hope this is a clue to your mystery.
More: CORRECTION>>>Roiroux line only...  by Barb ,   2000, May 20
Re: Question: New links found Roiroux and Laine dit Laliberte...need some help!! (Barb)
Correction...my line does not include "Laine", but rather is followed through the "Roiroux dit Laliberte" line. It follows as such;
1)Serapnine Roiroux dit Laliberte (My ggrandmother)
2)Francois Roiroux dit Laliberte (my ggrandfather...and so on)
3)Eustache-Michel Roiroux/Laliberte
4)Michel Roiroux/Laliberte (2nd marriage to Angelique Bergeron)
5)Jean-Baptiste Roiroux/Laliberte
6)Gaspard Roiroux/Laliberte...originating from France

I hope this can help anyone and has clarified a misunderstanding in a cross-over between the Laine/Roiroux question I had. Sometimes we have to dig deeper, but thanks to those who replied to my message! I really appreciated your help...

Question: Seek info on LaLiberte/Liberty family History  Keywords: geneaology Liberty LaLiberte
by C Jean Liberty ,   1996, Aug 04
Re: Question: Colin dit Laliberte - Need crest (David Laliberte)
I am seeking information on my LaLiberte/Liberty family
history.

Research from Quebec Province and US Sources yields the
following data:

I am C. Jean Liberty, b1923,

Son of Cyril Ambrose Liberty, b25Jun1892, Ticonderoga NY.

G'Son of Charles Leon (Leandre) Liberty/LaLiberte, bNov1857,
St Jean Sur Richelieu, d27Mar1930 Ticonderoga NY.

G'G'Son of Felix LaLiberte, b1820 Quebec Prov, d10Jan1875
Plattsburg NY. His full name possibly Felix Colin-LaLiberte,
Son of Francois-Xavier Colin-LaLiberte and Charlotte Gagne of
St. David Quebec Prov. Felix married Leocadie Sopuliere about
1845, then Julie Perot on 26Jun1865 at St Joseph de Chambly.
Records indicate close association of LaLiberte/
Gagne families. Known places of residence include: St. Jean
Sur Richelieu (island of St Therese), Chambly, Sorel, and
Berthierville. The family moved to Plattsburg NY in 1861.

I would like to extend the parent line back as far as possible.

A Library of congress book written 1888 by Arthur Lasenby
Liberty on the origin of Liberty/LaLiberte family name yields
the following:

In 1400, Pietro Baglioni led a small revolution in Corsica to
overthrow Spanish rulers and was awarded name "Libertat"
(Liberator). His descendents moved to Marseilles, France then
to Brittany. Part of that family went to England
(Buckinghamshire) at least as early as 1837 and are well
known there under the Liberty name. Other members apparently
left France from Brittany during the mid 1600's to late 1700's
and went to Quebec under the name LaLiberte.

Can anyone verify / amplify the above? I have additional
information on other children of Felix from Quebec/US Census
records and will provide.

Re: Found/possible family tree: Colin dit LaLiberte (John (jean) Laliberte)
Mathurin Colin dit Laliberte's wife was Jacqueline Labbe, one of the Filles du roi (King's Daughters), young French women, some of them orphans, who came to Nouvelle France for the sole purpose of marrying and building the population of the colony. The King's Daughters' expenses and some of their dowries were paid directly by the King of France himself. There is a lot of information on them if you do a search on the Internet. I too am a descendant of Mathurin and Jacqueline.

Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)
Here is my story on "LaLiberte".

I changed the spelling from Laliberte to LaLiberte because I thought it was more authentic. Perhaps I was wrong about that. I am often asked if there should be an accent aigue on the e. I think there really should be. Should there be a space after "La"?

My dad used to pronounce the name with the accent on La, and minor accent on -ber-. I got teased about the "birdy" sound and decided to change it to LaLiberte with the accent on "Li", as in "liberty". At least the French meaning and origin is more apparent to people. My wife pronounces it like La-Liberty, but instead of the "tee" sound at the end, it is a "tay" sound. That's another step toward a real French pronunciation.

Notice my login is "liberte". I preferred that to "lalibert" which fits within the usual 8 character limit but reads terribly. The other frequently suggested login is "dlaliber". Gack!

There's an Arsene (or maybe it's Arrene) in our family tree. See Richard John's message, #18. According to the 1900 U.S. Census, Arsene Laliberte was born around 1892 in New Hampshire. Would this by chance be your grandfather? Do you know what year your grandfather was born?

I spoke with Dad (Larry) and he said he told Andre (Ray's son) about this site. He said he didn't have the actual information with him at the time and would get it to Andre soon. Hopefully we will be adding more.

Dad also said he told his sister BJ about this site. Apparently one of his sisters has their father's (Arsene) birth certificate. Maybe we will be able to start the backwards information and find where we fit into this picture. Bye for now, Deb

Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)

My great grandfather's family, whose picture I have, came from the East and settled in Cumberland House, Saskatchewa\ n at the time of the early fur trade. While there he dispersed himself throughout\ , and those he left behind were great swimmers. I come from a family of 11 brothers and 5 sisters. Two boys and one girl went back to the Father. I did a short project with a buddy on the internet just this past semester and you can view it at http://www.cs.uregina.ca/~lalibert. I'm quite new to this technology\ , but I am progressing and love the learning part of it. One other thing, I am of Indian ancestry. Hope that doesn't shock you out of the web. That's it for now\ .

Hi, I'm Tom Laliberty and am Jeff's brother. Our Grandfather William, is approximately 87 and now resides in Lawrence MA.

He grew up in the Mount Carmel area of Methuen MA. His parents emigrated to Methuen from somewhere in Quebec. We need to consult him for more information regarding where in Quebec and what year they were married, etc.

Our Laliberty clan is thriving here in Eastern Mass. William and our deceased grandmother Molly have four children, fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

I have a little bit more information regarding my grandfather, William F. Laliberty. Unfortunately, my information is limited, and I only have this to offer; my great grandfathers' name. His name was Alexander Laliberte. My grand mother later changed the "e" to a "y" after marriage. If any one has any infromation regarding Alexander I would sincerely appreciate it!

This stuff is case sensative, sorry, that's Unix for ya.
This is my first attempt at things, so sorry if it's
not quite perfect, I need to tweek the program to get
better results. Check my web page at http://www.rpi.edu/~lalibr
which I will try to keep up to date as far as the latest
data revisions to this gedcom.
I'll try to maintain a list of who from here is where...
for example
I am at : http://www.rpi.edu/~lalibr/gedcom/D0007/I105.html
Chuck Delobe is indexed at: http://www.rpi.edu/~lalibr/gedcom/D0003/I955.html

He's sending me his GEDCOM so his area should be fleshed out a LOT in the upcomming weeks.

I'm workign on clearing space so I can add the other Laliberte families, if anyone wants to send a GEDCOM... I'm VERY new to HTML, but I'll do my best!

On an interesting note, on I90 on friday I was cut off by a little mazda, but the interesting thing is that around her licence plate, this person had a boarder which read ROY RIOUX Westboro. I'm in the proc (or my folks are) of trying to find out where this is, exactly, and I'll more than likely drop a line to the company. (Im guessing its a mazda dealershop, and that it's in Westboro MASS, given her plates, but could be wrong, so please be on the lookout in your area!) ROY RIOUX is a spelling varient that cropped up in my line, still reaserchine where and when it was used.

Re: Gedcom to HTML! (Vivs Laliberte)

Hello Monsieur Vivs !

I like what I've seen of your GED2HTML pages, good work ! Where did you get this translator, is it complicated to use? Is it taking a lot of time to convert a GEDCOM to these pages, or is it automatic ?

Definitely there is a need for that on the page. It is surely more interesting for a new comer to jump right in a tree rather than trying to find a genealogy software and then download the gedcom and whatever.

But I think you'll agree we also need to keep the GEDCOM source file so people can work offline and build their own tree and not have to re-enter everything manually from the html format. The only important point is to keep both GEDCOM and HTML data in line.

I think we should also do the same for the Laisne side, I'd like to have the opinion of other Laisne dit Laliberte on this (Philippe, Dick and the others).

It is also quite cool to be able to click on the name of a contributor to the genealogy page and jump right in his tree ! You know the list of Laliberte's on Internet that is displayed on the upper part of the page, maybe we should try to keep it uptodate and give for every contributor it's name, origin, e-mail, home page and genealogy link. I think we should centralise this list of names rather than have it disperse across the different messages.

What do you (and others) think ?

Regards from Switzerland

Hugues

Re: Agree: I like that ! (Hugues Laliberte)

I think that putting up our GEDCOM files as HTML is a good idea, put we would need both formats as you suggest so that we can continue Gedcom exchanges. Keeping them both in sync would be mandatory. Perhaps if the same person (and only one) would post and maintain the HTML file from the Gedcom then it would work. I've now reached over 800 people in my Gedcom as I've added my mother's family as well. I continue to slowly fill in blanks on the Bernard Laisne side as well. I am finding conflicting info as referenced by Tanguay and R. Jette dictionaries. I found a Bernard Laisne Gedocm on a CD-rom put out by Broderbund. His name is in a tree of over 4800 individuals. I haven't had time to go through it yet.

Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)

My wife's great-grandmother was Olive LaLiberte, born 21 May 1838 in Fr. Canada, died 3 Jul 1937 in Montague, MA. Married Peter Vincent 3 Nov 1857 in St. Gabriel, Brandon, Quebec. Had 17 children (4 born in MA all the rest in Canada). Parents were Alex LaLiberte and Marie Miron.

We know a lot about her descendants but nothing about her ancestors.

Family folk lore (maybe truth) says she may have been a Mohican princess. Esther DeLeon in CT says she gave Olive's attire to a museum in CT.

We would love to learn more about Olive and or any of her Canadian born children.

Please feel free to contact me via e-mail.

Other LaLibertes world-wide may have received the same letter about this offer to purchase a copy of The World Bood of LaLibertes. The offer has some interesting info in it, so I'll reproduce part of it here.

"Dear Daniel,

I have exciting news for you and all LaLibertes! Extensive work has been done throughout the world on a project relating to the distinguished LaLiberte name. Now a new book, "THE WORLD BOOK OF LALIBERTES," is about to be published and it includes individual LaLibertes who immagrated to the New WOrld between the 17th and early 20th centuries.

The first LaLiberte we found came to Sorel, Quebec in 1668. His name was Pierre. Like thousands of others, he sought a better life for himself in this land of opportunity.

[...]

This has been an enormous project! There are now over 4007 households bearing the LaLiberte name worldwide. Using a sophisticated computer network, more than 170 million records were searched in the US, Canada, Australia, [etc ...] It has been our goal to locate as many LaLibertes as possible."

I think we have about 4000 LaLiberte's listed already, just in the US and Canada.

The book costs $34.50 (+$3.88 s&h) if you order before publication, Oct 23, 1996. You can send it back in 15 days if you are dissatisfied. Call or write them for details:

Re: News: The World Book of LaLibertes (Daniel M LaLiberte)

Daniel,

I subscribe to Roots Digest and there's been alot of postings about Halbert's books. Most of it concerns the dissapointment when some one receives on thinking it is full of their Family names. But in the end most of the buyers were able to return their books and get a refund.

This is just a caution!

Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)

I find a Archange "Leaseigne" Who married a Rhoe or Roch
Roireau (roireault) dit Laliberte. I have traced
Rhoe's line, and its legitimate. Archange is the
daughter of Jean "Leaseigne" and Josephine Vaillier.
Now, their son, Jacques, married Geneveive Guichard,
who formerly married Eloy Colin.
There are rumors of a ROiReau Laisne crossover, and
this may well be it. Might also be a Colin crossover.
Anyone have these people in their databases?
Also of interest to all Laliberte families would be
http://rs6.loc.gov/wpa/18040142.html
It is the story of the "French Canadian Textile Worker"
The author of the accounting married a Laliberte in
Manchester New Hampshire. The story is something which I suspect would be of interest to ANYONE studying the various Laliberte lines, since it's very informative about life in those days. (mid 1800s).

The closest I could find to your inquiry is Plessisville, Quebec. It sounds almost the same.

Plessisville is located about halfway between Montreal and Quebec City, on highway 116 and junction of highway 165 on the south side of the St. Lawrence River.

Re: News: Looking for relatives of Joseph Ernest LaLiberte (commonly known as Ernest) (Richard Johns)
Looking for any information on sisters Irene and Clare Liberty (their maiden name). Irene was born in Massachusetts about Feb. 1918. Clare was born a few years later. Their parents were Napolean Francis Laliberte of St. Johnsbury, Vt and Matilda LaFreniere of Rhode Island. (Napolean's brother Joseph Ernest Laliberte moved to the Chicago area in the early 1900's. His son, Donald (Dean) Liberty still resides in Chicago and is a cousin of Irene and Clare. Irene and Clare and their parents lived in Chicago for sometime after 1920. Liberty relatives  by Paul Coty ,   1997, Jul 30
Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)
Good afternoon, My name is Paul Coty, and I stumbled onto this page quite by accident. My grandmother's maiden name was Liberty, which was shortened from LaLiberti, when they came into the country from Montreal in 1890, and settled in Carrol, New Hampshire. I noticed your spelling is with an "e" on the end instead of an "i". I don't know how much difference that makes, but thought I would drop you a line and tell you what I know. My grandmother's name is Emma(born 1888), her father's name was Henry(born 1860's), his wife's name was either Lumina or Jeannie LaPlante. Emma had two brothers, named Joseph and Mitchell, and there were two children who died at some time in Montreal. Don't know if any of this helps, but let me know what you think, and if you know of any connection.

I know that my ancestor from France used to be name by that way. Question: Felonise LaLiberte married to Clement Lefleur 1877-18/09, need info.!  by Barb Walton ,   1998, Nov 28
Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)
Hi...I'm fairly new to this page and am researching info. on my greatgrandmothers line, LaLiberte. Unfortunately I have very little ifo. to share, but I do have my ggrandmothers sisters marriage info. confirmed:

Felonise LaLiberte to Clement Lefleur Frs (Victoriaville) Lucie Chaine Nicolas Adeline Poirer 1877-18/9 Montreal N-D

I got this info. off of the Loiselle records for marriages in Quebec and from records from info. my father gathered from my grandmother when she was alive.

I have various spellings for my ggrandmothers name...Serephine? Josephine? and Cerephine? I still have yet to confirm a proper spelling.

It has been suggested from my grandmothers transcripts that my ggrandmother may have had the following siblings: 1) Serephine LaLiberte B. approx. 1861 and D. Dec. 14th, 1945(my ggrandmother)married to Joseph Sherbutt? Approx. 1877 (we have yet to confirm "Sherbutt" proper spelling, but they are buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Port Huron, Mich. U.S.A) 2) Felonise LaLiberte 3) Albert LaLiberte (had a daughter that married a Doctor Brussell? and lived in Williamsburgh Mass. U.S.A?) 4) Enri (Henry) LaLiberte (buried at St. Patrick Cemetery, Kinmount Ont. Canada

If there are more, we do not know. I have searched very hard for my ggrandmothers parents but I am completely lost at this point. My grandma, Mary Perisema (Sherbutt) Watson, lived most of her life around Fenelon Falls Ont. Canada B. July 15th 1882 and Pefferlaw Ont. Canada D. Oct. 15th 1972. I am trying to find my French lineage in the LaLiberte line...if anyone can fit me into their puzzle I'd love to hear from my family! We have been lost a long time and it would be wonderful to share some stories and hear some new ones. Thanks in advance for all your hard labours of love, Barb Walton

Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)
Hi there
Just a suggestion, but something that may prove useful down
the line for us all... How about if we start breaking down
the lists of persons and email addresses and web pages by
which family they belong to. That way we could more easily
track down our relatives. Sending a mailing to a list of 100
people is a lot less daunting than 3 or 4 hundred =]
Drop my a line at vividhue@rpi.edu if you think it's a good
idea. I'm willing to start compiling the lists here, and
thus leave less work for Daniel.
  Vivs
PS a number of links to my site have cropped up (dunno from
where) but it's been altered slightly. Best bet is
just link to my home page, since it will probably move
again.

Idea: Laliberte geneology search   by Maurice Patrick Liberty (Laliberte) ,   1999, Jan 03
Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)
After going through the messages of all the lost souls looking for their Laliberte family roots, it occured to me that maybe a group of Liberty's (laLiberte's) should join forces and organize a "search group" to begin building a huge family tree of the Liberty and Laiberte family name. We could start by building branches of known Liberty's and Laliberte's . These branches would hopefully be connected when the combined efforts of all of us are pluged into the branches of the "master Liberty / Laliberte family tree. For those of you, like me, who's geneology searches get bogged down somewhere in the late eighteen hundreds, maybe the missing links to our ancestors can be found in someone elses geneology file. If you think this idea has merit, please let me know.

Thank you

Hi, I'm not usre if I'm in the right place but here goes........

My name is Robert Laliberte, I'm 46, and I live in Warwick, RI. I have 2 sons, Philip, age 22, and Matthew, age 16. I also have one daughter named Jennifer, age 20. My wife's name is Ann Barber Laliberte. I have one brother named David and he has one son named David, Jr.. My mother's name is Constance Fugere Laliberte Keyes and my father's name was Edgar Laliberte and he is deceased. I don't know too much about the genealogy except that my father was related to a Msgr. Laliberte of Central Falls, RI.. Msgr. Laliberte was some how involved with the construction of one of the churches in Central Falls, I want to say Notre Dame Parish but I'm not sure. My mother's maiden name is Fugere and her parents are Herbert and Alice DeMaris (or something like that) and are both deceased. I know my father had either one or two brothers and I'm not sure if he had any sisters. Anyone knowing anything about my "twig" on the tree would be very apprciated.

Hello Tedi,

some connection between Gedeon LaLiberte and the Jean LaLiberte I'm

Question: More info please.  by Phil ,   1999, Oct 12
Re: LOOKING FOR VICTOR LALIBERTE INFO (ONTARIO) (Pierre)
Pierre, it woould be useful to know more about your grandfather: name of spouse, names of his brothers and sisters, the name of his children and their spouse etc..one name is sometimes not too useful to make sure we have the right one. I am not promising you that I can find your Granfather in my Database but with additional info about his other connections sometimes you discover what you need. Also are you a Laliberte? or was your grandfather your mother's father?

Question: Various Laliberte's searched for  by Vivs Laliberte ,   2000, Mar 07
Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)
Ok, long list follows
Basically looking for parents. May be any combination of
family lines here... These are people without parents in my
database, nothing more contrived than that. Some are probably
typos on my part or on the part of my sources, but I figure
Ill toss them out here for folks to dig into. Maybe we can
start crossing over some of the lines and combine our data
into one database. =]

This data is online at http://www.rpi.edu/~lalibr

Im at about 14,500 people, 4800 or so direct descendants of
Gaspard Roi (Laliberte) and linking up these could add a fair
number more =]

Thanks muchly

Question: Elzephir and Evalina Laliberte  by <Anonymous> ,   2000, Apr 13
Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)
My grandparents were Elzephir and Evalina Laliberte. They lived in Lebanon, New Hampshire. My grandfather was born in Lebanon and my grandmother who lived to be 104 years old was born in Canada -- Sherbrooke area (three rivers).

Memere' came from a large farm family I believe. I am interested in finding out more (believe it is spelled) about St. Anne de Stukley - either a parish or name of town - she was born in.
Note: Edmond Albert La Liberte 1902-1987  by Glenn Zapton ,   2000, Apr 28
Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)
My Grandfather was born Edmond Albert La Liberte in 1902,
I do not know the first names of his parent's but I believe
his mother's maiden name was De Somme.
He changed his name to Liberty early in the last century.
He married Violet Tilley Curley of the Six Nations.
 Their children were Francis(1923), Joseph(1925), Iris(1927),
 Joyce(1932), my mother Rita Ann(1934), Lawrence Reginald(1936)
and Mary(1942). He had a brother and sister living in the Hamilton, Ontario area.
Their names may have been Roy and Labina. I have no idea
where our Liberty family originated but Native roots have
been mentioned as well as Parisienne. I would love any additional information!

Question: Theophile Laliberte born @ 1845  by Michele Baker <pigfish>,   2000, Nov 29
Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)
Hi!

I have 2 questions!

#1) I am looking for the ascendents of Theophile Laliberte who later became Laney and lived in Skowhegan Maine. He married 3 times 2 times in St. Ephrem, P.Q. I have a lot of information on his desendents but nothing above him. Does anyone know who his parents are?

#2) I have a copy on microfilm of "Recueil de Genealogies" but I can not read French. Mostly I can pick out the information I want. Does anyone know if the names listed "together" are supposed to be brothers and sisters?

If so then my Theophile has 9 brothers and sisters.. Ursule, Obeline, Paul, Marie, Francois, Pierre, Marguerite, Domitille and Hermenegilde.

Thanks for your help,

Hope to make a connection soon!

News: New Site! 26k names and growing (all lines)  by Vivs Laliberte ,   2001, Apr 24
Re: Various / Divers (Hugues Laliberte)
Howdy all
  I've moved my site to
http://www.atmos.ucla.edu/~vivs/gen1

my database includes names in the Laisne and Colin lines
and probably a few strays, but is mostly devoted the the Roireau line. Still, I will add any Laliberte decendant of any line (that way we can have a centralized place for people to search.) so let me know if you have updates!
I'm in the process of (SLOWLY) adding all of Bagot and Lotbiniere counties in Quebec, so if you have updates in those areas, let me know as well!

There's always a long list of people in your database who are not properly linked up, and so there's also a site at http://www.atmos.ucla.edu/~vivs/gen2 which contains these "sub trees" tha I'm looking to link to, so feel free to browse that as well. I have about 75 "stray" laliberte's that I've not linked to one family or another, at this point. I previously posted a list of the ones I had at that point, but got little to no responce, so I'll likely not post it again, however if you want to see such a list, please drop me a line at let me know

vivs@atmos.ucla.edu is the current address.
 Thanks

Question: LaLibertes early settlers of Detroit/Nicolas Senet dit Laliberte  by Barbara ,   2000, Nov 04
On a list of early settlers of Detroit (before 1750) was the name Laliberte. My husband's immigrant ancestor was Nicolas Senet dit LaLiberte who arrived in Montreal around 1680. He was a royal notary who lived in Point aux Trembles. His descendants did not arrive in the Detroit area, as far as I know, until the late 1700's. Does anyone know of any Lalibertes who arrived there earlier? All the Senet dit Lalibertes in my husband's line kept the Senet part of the name, later changing it to Snay. But perhaps some of Nicolas' descendants chose to drop the Senet part. Detroit is celebrating the 300th anniversary of Cadillac's settlement next year and is recognizing descendants of the original settlers. Thanks for any help.
