Mathurin Colin dit Laliberte's wife was Jacqueline Labbe, one of the Filles du roi (King's Daughters), young French women, some of them orphans, who came to Nouvelle France for the sole purpose of marrying and building the population of the colony. The King's Daughters' expenses and some of their dowries were paid directly by the King of France himself. There is a lot of information on them if you do a search on the Internet. I too am a descendant of Mathurin and Jacqueline. |
