Ton, Luis y Pedro, Klaus, Frank, Steffi, Claire, Renato-- thank you all very much for your kind words and compliments: really, quite excessive <!!> but much appreciated <shy smile>. Actually, yes, I have worked as a journalist, among several other writing-related career stops, and besides, English is my native language. Be glad I didn't try to write in some other language-- heaven only knows how badly I'd've done! Anyhow, mayhap you all spoke too soon. I've caught myself making a stupid factual error. In my Feb 18 concert review, post #1329 I reported that one of Cecilia's encores was an aria from Handel, when in fact the opera, which I called simply "L'anima del filosofo" (AKA "Orfeo ed Euridice...") was actually composed by Haydn... As the Chicago Tribune reviewer correctly stated. Thanks for posting the link to his review, Klaus, because your comment re the source of "Al tuo seno fortunato" set me to wondering... And indeed the error was *mine*. All the more galling because I have the darn opera CD sitting on the bookshelf 20 feet from here... Well, there's nothing else but to say it again: Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! I stand corrected. Nothing like a little intellectual comeuppance to bring the exultant music-lover sliding back down to earth, eh? <a VERY wry smile> But mistakes happen, when you write with your heart more than with your head, in the middle of the night... And now I really look forward to Ton's promised NY account, and (I hope!) others' reviews of Ann Arbor, DC, etc, for indeed, we ARE starved for Cecilia here in the US! One visit every 3 or 4 years is pretty slim pickin's, as they say. Pen |
