CB mezzo or soprano? Who classified her voice?

Last might I attended the Cecilia Bartoli concert in Ann Arbor. The orchestra was wonderful. I enjoyed listening to CB, but am left wondering whether she is truly a mezzo-soprano as stated in the program. Her voice sounds too light. Her range is large, but I found her middle and higher registers had greater strength and carrying power than her lower. To my ear her lower register sounded like soprano extended downwards - a little thin. Perhaps this is simply because I expect a little more depth from a mezzo. A bit more about the concert: CB had a good raport with the audience and sang two encores. The second half was all Salieri, for which her voice seems quite well suited, although as I commented (more a question, really), I wonder whether CB is a mezzo or soprano. M.
