| I was one of the lucky ones to see Cecilia Bartoli perform in Toronto at the Ford Centre for the Performing Arts on September 27 95. We sat on stage ... behind her to the left. Although I was thrilled to be there (the concert had been sold out for weeks and weeks), I would still never do it that way again -- I missed her beautiful face and yes, her expressions. But the experience gave me a rare opportunity to observe the audience and their faces: what a sight. Absolutely rapt, lips parted, eyes locked, and when she exhibited that Bartoli sense of humour and teased and flirted with them, I saw wide open smiles that were almost childlike. It was fascinating and heart filling. During one of her endless encores, she turned to sing to those of us behind her...so gracious and womanly and girlish all at once. To hear her sing Rossini is never to forget it. I'm a newbie and thought I'd keep my thoughts to myself for at least six months till I learned the ropes...but finding a web site on Cecilia Bartoli fixed that resolve in a hurry! |
