Magnifico!
a concert with the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) Vancouver Orchestra.
Highlight for me was Parto Parto from Clemenza (the best clarinet/mezzo duet)
- she didn't actually do anything that we haven't heard in Vancouver before,
but the 2800 fans who braved the snowstorm outside were enthralled.
Apparently Senora Bartoli (her mom and teacher) was also there with her.
I love the way that she's not afraid to make a funny/strange/weird face in the
production of her sound - she lights up the stage with her smile and presence and
seems ever so grateful of the audience being there.
(Two years ago, we did get an aria from Carmen in the encores - alas, not this time)
She'll (hopefully) return in two years.
I left my program at home, but if anyone's truly interested, I'll attempt to post
it - except for the encores, because although I'm familiar with the music (and
castanets!), I'm unable to identify works properly... perhaps some research...
