Top of Information
- Facts, Knowledge, and Science
- Fiction, Arts, and Religion
This is an example top of a web of all information. Since there is
not one way to organize all information, this is not the only top
there will be. But I just wanted to illustrate how things might be
organized. An alternative organization is the Usenet hierarchy. Please suggest other
alternatives. E.g., another possible split is between nouns and
verbs:
- People, Places, and Things
- Activities
Clicking on the sub categories, e.g. "Knowledge", will expand the
outline at that point. The outline feel is kind of nice, especially
as a way to quickly traverse a hierarchy, but articles need not be
organized this way. In fact, graphical layout or text with random
links might be more appropriate, depending on the article. A list, or
lists within lists, is often not appropriate. Alphabetical
lists, such as encyclopedias (e.g. Kevin's
Internet Encyclopedia - Bookshelf, and CSOS's WebGuide)
are even less appropriate, in my opinion, except for large lists of
unorganized material.
I'm not sure what else really belongs at this level. There should be
some unifying concept or subject for each HyperNews article, but *all*
information is a very big subject. Even for one relatively focused
subject, there are alternate ways to organize subtopics. Discussion
relative to this page should be high-level organizations of
information.
