Feedback Off the top of my head . . . .

Buses Out of NYC - Port Authority Bus Terminal

Short Lines:
To Red Apple Restaurant, 4 miles from AT crossing of
West Mombasha Rd. in New York. (Also goes past Campmor!)
[Sorry about the vagueness, but I’ve used it twice. Once
hiking north to West Mombasha Rd., and once south]
     To Bear Mountain, NY.
. . . . And few other places mostly west of the Hudson
River.

Trailways:
Delaware Water Gap, PA (Actually about 4 1/2 miles outside of DWG)
     Kent, CT
     Great Barrington, MA
     Killington, VT (?)

Greyhound:
     Gainesville, GA
     Abingdon, VA
     Roanoke, VA
     Waynesboro, VA
     Harrisburg, PA
     Bangor, ME

Trains Out of NYC - Grand Central Station

MetroNorth Harlem Valley Line:
Pawling, NY (7 Days A Week)
     Appalachian Trail Station (Weekends Only)

Trains Out of NYC - Penn Station

Amtrak:
     Gainesville, GA
     Harpers Ferry, WV
     Harrisburg, PA
     White River Junction, VT
     Bangor, ME

Trains Out of Hoboken, NJ - Hoboken Station

New Jersey Transit:
Take Bergen Line or Main Line and connect to the Port
Jervis Line (Same Train?)to Tuxedo or Harriman Train Stations
(South & North of the Trail respectively)[Via PATH Train, NJ
Transit Bus,or Ferry from NYC]

With the exception of Bangor, ME, all of these stops are within 20 miles of the trail, and I've taken most of them! Taxis, shuttles, Trail Magic or your thumb and/or feet will get you the rest of the way. I used to live in Elizabeth, New Jersey, a 20-minute train ride to NYC, and I haven't driven since 1987, so I've had to find some Mass Transit solutions to get to the Trail. Since NYC is a major World transportation hub, and it has a near central position along the AT, that gives it the ideal jump off to describing Mass Transportation to the AT.

Most of the details can be found on the web and/or via 800 Number with a little investigation on your part. Sorry that I can't give it to you all on a silver platter, but I've given you a fairly good place to start your research. Have Fun!

Kurt
