While remembering the AT passes within something like 100 miles of 2/3s of the US population, one needs to consider the odds...why would someone climb a mountain just to kill or rape, or steal a 100-dollar packback?]
If I was fraid I would just take a gun...it won't save you from killer bees or grizzly bears (they live out West) but if your would-be attacker weighs between 50 and 500 pounds, you'll be the one that lives. Make sure you get training beforehand.
