Since no one has managed to write anything here for a time
I thought I'd mention a little hike I had yesterday. I
started out at Gathland State Park (where the campground is
closed by the way) and walked sout 6 miles to the Weverton
Cliffs. Just as I got there, a runner ran past me. #44.
It turned out he was the first person to get to that point
in the Mountain Club of Maryland's hike across the state.
(40 miles) It's an event held every other year. On my
way back I saw quite a number of people, who surprisingly
didn't look as tired as I felt even though they had done
over 30 miles when I saw them, and I was only working on
my 9th through 12th...
Plants that were in bloom: Moccasin Flower (A Pink
Lady's Slipper), Mayapple, Wild Geranium, Giant Chickweed,
Spring Beauty, Moss Campion (A Silene of some sort - I
think the common name I gave may be correct - but I don't
have any books at hand to check), a few Redbud trees,
Dogwood, and probably a couple of things I'm forgetting.
There was also a substantial amount of Garlic Mustard
in certain places - a nasty exotic weed that can spread
like wildfire. :(
