Every SAR Organization goes through the training battle. It is hard to do, but your sheriff needs to take the bull by the horns and set some standards. If those standards are not met you are out. Ten years ago our sheriff set a manditory minimum of 40 hours of basic training and 30% attendance to the rescues. Those who are MRA certificed, EMT, divers, K-9, ELT trackers, mantracker, etc, have to attend the additional training depending on the teams they belong to. Even though we are volunteer, there needs to be a minimum performance level maintained in order that a safe level of operation in the field is sustained. It is not easy. Six years ago we went though a weeding out, and made the difficult transition from a "good old boy club" to a SAR organization. I lost some friends but the organization is better for it. Good luck!
