I'm going to have to challenge you on that one Irv. I can't speak for other organizations, but at least the times I've seen PATC's Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group training at our club headquarters, I've been very impressed with the dedication and enthusiasm of the group. Originally only about a dozen people, SMRG has now grown to over 60, and it's still growing. Their training program is highly structured, and growing responsibility is based directly on the training courses completed successfully (among other things). They are an impressive group of volunteers. If I was ever in trouble, I'd want SMRG searching for me. But I sense that things are a bit more structured here in the East....
