I find that so many people become involved in SAR with the excitement in believing that they will go out and search right away. Becoming a member of an organization such as SAR means the beginning of months of preparation work, training, meetings, and your time. Most people actually do drop out after a month or two and they are not heard from again. This is hard on the people running the training, they must continually call or e-mail these vacant trainees and try to encourage them to attend. Especially the new members who feel that having SAR membership will advance their individual reputation with the opposite sex. I have seen some members who wish their dogs to be trained for SAR but never show up for training or give any group support at all. It really does take years to form any type of secure and reliable SAR Member list that you can use in the event of any emergency. I have just decided to never bother calling any member who has been previusly notified of any training or meeting to remind them, it's not worth your time or loss of your time. Liz. |
