I have been involved in two searches for mentialy chalanged children.
#1 A Seven year old boy who is atistic. He has wondered away from home about FIFTEEN times in the last two years, yes, he is now in a secure home, In each case he was found within .75 miles from home (pls). In all but one case he wint down hill. In all cases he DID NOT answer to his name and would not react to searchers untill they made phicial contact with him.
#2 Two subjects,one female 15 yrs old, two male 7 yrs old,(brother and sister) both with mild downs synd. They got sepperated from the group, tried to retrace their route and got lost in the dark, Both were found safe the next afternoon. They had traveled down hill about Two miles over a 24 hour time period. both commented that they had seen the flashing lights and herd the horns but could not get to them.
We had fire trucks with lights and sirens slowly patroling the roads. Next time we will havethem stay in one spot for long periods of time.
