There are several units in the SE PA area. Montgomery County operates a converted RV, radios up front, data link to the CAD, on board UHF repeater, two Honda generators on carts,
the old dinnette was retained for a conference area.
Delaware County has two or three. One is a 28 foot step van with a crank up 40 tower, primarily a communications unit. Mobile 3 is a bus/RV based unit with radios in the back, conference area with DSS TV and PCs forward, lots of A/C cell phones all over (including outside access) , self leveling jacks that can be used to change tires, offic style kitchen, light tower, the works. Since the Van is Mobile 1 and the bus is Mobile 3 there must be a mobile 2?? Gloucester County (NJ) has an GM RV which is primarily radio. Philadelphia Fire has at least 2 FieldCom rigs, and used to have (may still have) a mobile TV system, the cops have several Radio Shop (step)Vans. The Managing Director's Office has the EMA unit, which used to be a big mobile home towed by a pickup with a 10KW plus generator and a sound tower. Bucks County does not have a county unit but there are several regional Field Com rigs, mostly police oriented. The regional SWAT associations are thinking of building one in each area also. White Deer SAR has an RV they use for transportation, Maryland MRG (ASRC) has a converted modular ambulance they use with computers all over and no room to work in. GPSR used a 4x8 foot tool box trailer with a pull up mast and slide out generator, set up a 10 x10 tent for work space. Most of the medium to heavy FD rescues have some space inside for the IC to use the radio and the phone, a coffee pot, and map table. Almost every apparatus and all ambulances have cell phones as well as county radios (some more than one county) and UHF Med sets in the ambulances. I operated out of my Suburban on many occaisions-- had a radio to talk with each county system, cell phone, CB, scanner, PA, and used the tail gate if the front seat got too crowded. APCO published a theme issue on mobile command posts, as probably did Fire Engineering. Check them out. I may be building one soon also, will let you know who wins the bid.
