Our command post can be seen by links with Sault Search and Rescue through www.sarvac.org
We purchased this unit new and had it built to our specs. It was decided that for a large scale operation, our school bus could not double as a rest/food prep unit and search command headquarters. Therefore it was decided to have one built. The chassie is a Ford F350 powered by diesel. Actually, considering our fleet of vehicles, this is the most fuel efficient vehicle that we own. The module, is constructed out of alluminum. Skuff resistant walls, floors and cabinets are contained therein. See threw overhead cabinets at ceiling level. At the rear of the module, a map/chart table with pull out drawers on the sides contain all drawing and chart work products. Above the table, a map/chart cabinet house all the maps and marine charts for the area we work. A radio mic extension is also present to avoid running back and forth to the main radio in the unit. The command center also has a small fridge, coffee pot, microwave oven. A washroom is also present near the front of the unit. There is a walk through to the interior of the chassie. Mobile radio's at the radio desk, consist of land, sea, and air. Also in this area is a pull out drawer which house all portable hand held radios. The diesel Generator is a Kabota 4500 lowboy. Startup can be activated from inside the command module. Outside, we can hook up to shore power. A 30 foot telescopic antenna is located on the rear of the unit as well as tripod emergency lighting. Ourside storage cabinets (2) are located on either side for storage of larger items. In conclusion, to have a unit such as described above the cost is $98,000.00.
