Browsers
WWW Clients are typically
interactive Browsers controlled by users. This is a list of many of them,
but it is growing increasingly obsolete.
For X Windows
- Mosaic for X

Mosaic for X (Unix and VMS) ftp from here.
- Mosaic for
X with fish search, as distributed by the TUE, allows you to
search for keywords by 'swimming' through the network of documents.
Works better with a local cache.
- Mosaic-2.4.1 is a
version of Mosaic 2.4 for X by Mike Peter Bretz (bretz@zdv.uni-tuebingen.de)
including the following features: support for multiple for languages,
colormap fixes, and geometry for the document window.

Multi-Localization enhancement of NCSA Mosaic for X 2.4 makes use
of various national character sets in NCSA Mosaic for X 2.4. You can
switch between character sets in one Mosaic.
- GWHIS (Global-Wide Help & Information System) is a commercially
licensed version of NCSA Mosaic by Quadralay
- Shared
Mosaic or Mosaic-sh is an extension to NCSA's WWW browser
Mosaic. Using Mosaic-sh you can conduct WYSWIS (What You See is What I
See) kinds of collaborations/meetings.
- WebRouser uses
the Multiple Embedded Applications API (MEAPI) for support of embedded
Weblet applications, allowing Web pages to become fully-interactive
application environments.
- tkWWW for X Windows.
is a browser that supports HTML editing.
- MidasWWW
- Chimera supports external
data converters and protocol handlers.
- ViolaWWW
is an extensible World Wide Web hypermedia browser. Viola is a
toolkit for hypermedia development, publishing, and browsing. It
is basically a toolkit consisting of a scripting language, a
graphical user interface, and an object-oriented data storage
system. ViolaWWW is an application of the Viola toolkit.
- Cello
- Dancer is a
modularized client written in Python. There are two different types
of modules: Agents, which retrieve URLs and Viewers, which process the
URL once it has been retrieved. Note that viewers can also act as
filters, processing the information and then passing it on.
- Arena's
primary purpose is to implement HTML3, which include elements like
tables and maths.
For MS Windows
Internet WorkHorse a browser for
Windows has now been released to beta test.
WorkHorse does not compare well as a browser to Netscape, but it
does include ECheque facilities and SSL with 128bit encrypted
master keys. (amongst other things)

The Line Mode Browser is a character based World-Wide Web Browser.
It is developed for use on dump terminals and as a test tool for the
W3 Common Code Library. It can be run in interactive mode, non-
interactive mode and as a proxy client. Furthermore it gives a variety
of possibilities for data format conversion, filtering etc.

- OLIAS
provides an integrated environment for retrieving and displaying
both SGML and World Wide Web documents.
