Hi foaks I have found a new website: http://www.advancedcollaboration.nl which is about designing collaboration for mission critical tasks such as: operational risk management, swot analysis etc.
The nice thing st this site they first talk about how to design collaboration and in a later stadium about the modus: distributed or same time same place and then about the tools.
In synchronous mode ( I believe they call it: manually) or in another mode I believe they talk about the design of re-usable recipes, tools, and the configuration about the tool.
So instead of talking immediately about modus it might be fruitful to think about the task at hand and about the collaboration design needed for this task.
