Yes, we need to provide support for more structured kinds of annotations, other than free-form text. The main difficulty is that the semantics of that data needs to be defined. How should clients deal with a rating value, for example? "What are all these other fields or substructures or binary data?" it might say. It is, in general, a database problem, with all the problems of defining semantics and mappings between schemas or ontologies.

The structure of data is easy to define. The semantics is always a hard problem. We need something on the order of downloadable code that comes along with data to help interpret it.
