RFC 822 Date Strings and Netscape

Forum: NCSA httpd 1.4 BETA - Bug Reports
Date: 1995, Apr 13
From: Christopher Lewicki

I've been in dialog recently with a number of net web users
and some Netscape Comm. Developers about the RFC 822 date issues
of httpd-1.4b4. I can't say I'm too fluent in these areas,
but in order that the problem gets dealt with, I am forwarding
this information here...

I recently fixed netscape to correctly interpret the RFC
822 date strings that your server uses to pass
last-modified dates.

Unfortunatly your server now appears to crash
every time an If-modified-since request is sent to
it. Netscape did not previously ever send an
If-modified-since request to your server since
it could not parse your last-modified dates.
My suspicion is that the RFC 850 date parser
within your server is broken and needs to be
fixed.

I just wanted to give you a heads up since users
who use the next version of Netscape will be unable
to connect to your server correctly. We intend
to release the next version sometime within the
next two weeks.

You may also want to send a heads-up to NCSA about
the problem if it is a general 1.4 server bug.
