“The Rock Show”
By: Sick Myth
Did you ever see those bright yellow posters that were hung on the telephone poles all up and down and around the Philmont and Bustleton area in North East Philly in 1993 and 1996? They read something like “Metal Feast- A new Level” These posters were promoting local rock music with bands like Predator, Afterlife, Anonymity and Dead Serious. These shows were an incredible blast and total rock music experience for anyone who was lucky enough to have been a part of it. Well, once again we have a reason to get a designated driver, plan on bringing some spending money and prepare for a night of music, partying and more partying.
This summer’s main event is simply titled ”The Rock Show” July 25th 2003 at Sweeney’s Saloon at the intersection of Philmont/Bustleton in North East Philadelphia. This show is Produced by Hank Buhner of Predator and Vass Productions, Mike V. of Out On The Town Magazine, Rick Dean Smith of POWERKLASH (formerly Afterlife/Dead Serious) and many of the same people that brought to you 1993 and1996’s “Metal Feast”. The Metal Feast shows were held at Sweeney” Saloon where they were filmed and broadcast on Comcast, Suburban and other cable television networks in the Philadelphia region. “The Rock Show” is no different than any of the other huge productions that this network of local musicians, promoters and supporters of local music are accustomed to. “The Rock Show” consists of exceptional audio and visual entertainment by POWERKLASH, Predator and Hollow Point. Models are welcomed and encouraged as this will be filmed and broadcast in the Philly area. I had the chance to catch up with Predator at a benefit for Dick Schuyler on May 25th at Brady’s Irish pub in Bensalem. In true Predator style these guys came on and kicked some serious ass. Their set consists of mostly hard rock covers from Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Godsmack and Disturbed and originals. Predator has been part of our Philly music scene for a long time and has continued to deliver the goods. One thing that is really cool about this band is that they have the same line up since their inception and you can hear their commodore in the music they perform. Closing “The Rock Show” will be POWERKLASH. I covered this band in the recent issues of Out On The Town Magazine. I have been hanging out with the band lately and got the chance to hear some of their new material they have been recording in their home studios. The production of the new songs far surpasses anything the group has recorded in the past. The group performs little but when they do you get a chance to see a professional performance by a power trio that really gives a crap about the music and message they send to the listeners and observers. RE-CAP ……..”The Rock Show” July 25th 2003 at Sweeney’s Saloon- The intersection of Philmont/Bustleton in North East Philadelphia.
