News: http-analyze - A real fast Log Analyzer for web servers  Keywords: HTTPD log analyzer
by <Anonymous> ,   1996, Jun 11

The beta-test of http-analyze, a fast log analyzer for web servers, has finally ended. http-analyze analyzes a server's logfile and creates detailed statistics about the server's access load, the amount of data sent by the server and the efficiency of caching mechanisms (http-analyze DOES NOT count the number of visitors of your site for reasons explained in an article by Erik Dorfman.

The program has been highly optimized to process huge logfiles in a reasonable time (on an Indy R4400/175MHz http-analyze processes about 21.000 log entries per second!).

http-analyze requires an ANSI C compiler, a server supporting the common logfile format, and Thomas Boutell's gd graphics library for fast GIF creation.

http-analyze is copyrighted, but available for free at The World's Finest Netstore, the web server of RENT-A-GURU®.

Have fun!

From WEBster, June 11.

SurfReport (http://bienlogic.com/surfreport) is a Web application that analyzes the number of visitors to your Web site. The application generates graphic reports of statistics for a particular period or a particular day; delivers reports on the web and sends them by e-mail to a list of recipients. Request for Win95 NCSA access log analysis & statistics Software

I'd really appreciate help in recieving a software tool to help analyse my access_log and produce elaborate statistics & graphs

We only have a Win95 Box, we need to FTP download our access_log from our service provider and crunch our stats on our local Pentium PC.

Most of the NCSA access log packages are only available for the UNIX Platform, but we need to use it on WIN95. Some of the UNIX packages for access_log statistics can produce very eleborate information sorted by a variety of topics. We have been having trouble finding any such packages for WIN95 when doing standard internet searches.

We need it to run on Win 95 and output in HTML format- We would like to gather statistics over a variety of time periods to measure peak periods: Hourly, Daily, Week, Month, Year peak times or hours etc which pages are hit the most. Contacts - by country - Most common visitors Pages per visit

Your time and help to locate such software is appreciated.

Thanks,

Best, Eric Nolan eric@premed.edu enolan@spacelab.net

Re: Request for Win95 NCSA access log analysis & statistics Software (Eric Nolan )

MKStats will work perfectly on Win95/NT. It requires Perl 5, which you can download from hip.com to run on Win95. I have done most of my development of the program on a Win95 machine, so I know it works great. Everything you need to run the graphical reports is even included.

MKStats will soon be available at http://www.mkstats.com/

If it's not there yet, take a quick look at http://web.sau.edu/~mkruse/mkstats/

I think you'll be more than pleased with the results.

News: CookieStats  by Daniel M LaLiberte <liberte>,   1996, Aug 07

See:

http://www.netimages.com/~snowhare/utilities/cookies.html

CookieStats 1.0 is a small perl script that scans the cookies_log generated by Apache and produces a list of accessed pages and unique cookies. This has the effect of screening out duplicate accesses by single browsers and gives a relatively hard lower limit on the number of people accessing a page. Not all browsers support cookies, so some people are missed. This error is, however, under 10%.

Question: Utility about analyzing Oracle Webserver 1.x/2.x logs?  Keywords: Oracle , Log File Formats
by Nick Fotis ,   1996, Sep 27

Hi,

I tried to massage my Oracle Webserver 1.x logs (under AIX), but it seems that's not in the classic formats (NCSA/Common).

My first try was with the Analog 1.2, and the Beta Analog 1.94.6, which proclaimed 'corrupted log lines' the whole file.

Do you know of a respective utility about analyzing these files?

Here's a sample from my server's log file:

193.92.197.98 - - [Sun, 22 Sep 1996 07:49:47 GMT] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 193

193.92.133.34 - - [Sun, 22 Sep 1996 08:12:14 GMT] "GET /icons/logo.gif HTTP/1.0" 200 2337

193.92.88.212 - - [Sun, 22 Sep 1996 08:27:06 GMT] "POST /demo/owa/tobhma.showvals HTTP/1.0" 200 3840

(these lines are wrapped from the textarea FORM)

I'll be grateful for any hints.

Greetings, Nick Fotis.

by Carlos Eduardo Cianflone ,   1996, Dec 13

Hi,

To all those unfortunate souls that, like myself, webmaster an Oracle-powered Web Site, and are unable to use third-part log analyzer with that weird logfile format...

I spent some time writing and debugging this tiny C program (instead of going to the beach), just to give us a chance to get our site's accesses analyzed.

Cut the code below, compile it and use as a filter. It accepts an Oracle Logfile as stdin, and outputs a fixed "NCSA/common" format logfile. I don't have yet a very large log file, so I was not able to test this program against every possible entry in the logfile, but it seems to work well. After I run the filter, I was able to use analog, wusage, ftpweblog, accesswatch, etc...

So, here is it, enjoy. Any doubt on using the code, send me an e-mail. Anybody please feel free to alter and improve the code.

Bye.

Question: Analyze userids on password-protected sites?  Keywords: userid password access log
by Aliza R. Panitz ,   1997, May 14
I am looking for a Unix tool to analyze the userids on a password-protected site.

For example, if I give passwords to a protected subdirectory to my friends Jane and Tom, I'd like to know how many times each of them looked at files in the directory.

As far as I can tell, none of the common analysis tools does this. It's planned as an enhancement to Analog -- but is there any tool that does this *now*??? I can grep and cut the userids out of the access_log, but I'm looking for something a bit prettier, perhaps integrated with other stats.

So, say I go to any site - www.microsoft.com. Now,
when I pressed the ENTER key the browser will perform
the socket calls and then retrieve the web page. How
many bytes were transferred to/from my PC for
transferring to this site ?
Question that I need this program to answer.

Same applies to FTP monitoring.

I'll appreciate any help on this.

Thanks

Question: statistics from different time periods in one pass  Keywords: web statistics from different time periods in one pass
by Mike Stolz ,   1998, Jan 20
I'm working at IT pro AG, Switzerland. We 're generating our statistic reports with Webtrends. The problem is that Webtrends can only generate reports from different period-lengths (e.g. weekly and monthly report) in several passes through the database.

Is there a "Web Statistic Program" which is able to do this in one pass?

Note: webtrax  by Tom Van Vleck ,   1998, Jun 25
Take a look at http://www.best.com/~thvv/webtrax-help.html

Webtrax is portable, since it's written in perl5; I have checked it on Mac, Win95, nad FreeBSD. It analyzes logs written in NCSA Combined format, with referrer and browser added to the hit log. Webtrax is highly configurable: it can produce 20 different reports, many in graphic form. It uses a Java pie chart applet to display pie charts, if the user's browser supports Java. Output is also possible in text form, and Webtrax will optionally mail its output.

Question: searching access log question  by <Anonymous> ,   1999, Feb 17
hi,
does any of the access log analysis tools allow a user
search for a particular file or image and return the number
of hits or click-throughs? For example:

I have an image test.gif on my site. I want to find out
the number of hits it got AND where the people came from.
I don't want to have to read through the entire access log
file to get this.

Question: Proxy Server Log Analysis Tools  by Neil Myers ,   2000, May 20
Hi!

Does anybody know of any freeware etc. log analysis tools for Proxy Server WinSock/Web/Packet Filter logs?

It doesn't have to be fancy, just functional (even an Excel/Access add-in will suffice).

BTW, I'm not being tight here. It's just that my employer doesn't see any real benefit from any level of investment in this area (we only have a 15 user SBS 4.5 server).

Thanks
