No, she is wrong. Master is a gender-neutral term that happens to have connotations of masculinity associated with it currently. This will not always be the case, nor should it be the case. These connotations came about because years ago, most masters _were_ male. Now that more and more women are becoming masters, the connotation will change as people get used to that fact. If you want to call yourself something else, like mistress, that's fine, but don't tell us that we can't use a word that's defined to mean what we were trying to communicate. That is the point of language after all. Connotations are a different problem.
